We provide insurance for Ambassadors and Coaches who are working on Pickleball Scotland behalf. Ambassadors introducing the game are always working on Pickleball Scotland’s behalf.
Pickleball Scotland can only be liable, and their insurance will only respond, when the coaches are carrying out activities under the direction of Pickleball Scotland.
Coaches who carry out activities that are not under the direction of Pickleball would be required to ensure that they are covered themselves.
It would be expected that the organisation asking the coach to carry out the activity should provide cover; however, this would depend on how the coaches were engaged. It may be that organisations expect the coaches to have their own insurance.
We strongly recommend that coaches check that they are adequately covered for carrying out any activities they are asked to perform as they may be held personally liable. The cost of legal representation to defend or negotiate any claim would be extremely expensive and difficult for an individual to handle on their own.
Coaches may be well advised to investigate and take out their own insurance to ensure they are adequately protected – particularly if they are working with a number of organisations.
We cannot recommend the best option as we are not aware of each individual coach's circumstances; however, we would suggest they try the likes of Markel, who provide quotations online – www.markeluk.com or 0333 242 9701, or they could also try Sportscover Europe Ltd (the providers of the insurance for Pickleball Scotland). They can be emailed at info@active-risk.com
