Pickleball is the fastest growing sport in the world.

Pickleball is the fastest growing sport in the world.  It is a central net, rebound game played with a ball and paddle (like a hard racket) and was invented in the USA over 50 years ago by a family who named it after their dog Pickles!

ABOUT THE SPORT

Pickleball is played on a court very similar to badminton.

Pickleball uses elements of racket skills from tennis, squash, badminton, and table tennis.  However this game is unique - for one reason, no other sport has a 'kitchen' in the middle of the court!

The rules and scoring system also mean that pickleball is much more accessible by the young and not-so-young, making this a fantastic family activity for everyone to enjoy.

The easiest place to play is on a badminton court.  Lower the net height to about 1m (hip height).

What do I need
to play?

Most people play doubles (2v2) because this is great fun and a little less tiring than singles!

OUR VALUES

Our values.

We have values here at Pickleball Scotland, from being safe to having fun, see them all below.

1.

BE SAFE

Includes warming up, making sure play stops when ball rolls across courts, keeping people physically & emotionally safe, and safeguarding issues

2.

HAVE FUN

Players and coaches are responsible for creating a fun and inclusive environment  which promotes physical and mental and social health.

3.

GAME ON

Use the game to to help people learn the tactics and skills – conditioned games can be invented

4.

BE GENEROUS

As a player praise your opponents’  good shots; be generous with line calls – ‘if in doubt the ball is in’.

5.

EFFORTS ARE SUCCESSES

Winning is not everything. Encourage building motivation towards improvement rather than winning; use positive comments when things are working well than negative comments when things are not going well.
