Celebrating Sheila Johnston Winner of the Pam Carter Award

19 October 2026

Huge congratulations to Sheila Johnston on winning the Pam Carter Award for voluntary services to pickleball in Scotland

Sheila Johnston receives the Pam Carter Award

Named in honor of the late, celebrated Scottish landscape artist and passionate pickleball pioneer Pam Carter, the award features a unique pickleball paddle personally painted by Pam, which is now presented annually to the winner.

Since starting the Falkirk Pickleball group with a few families on a Friday night in 2019, Sheila has grown it into a vibrant community running sessions 5 days a week for over 100 people.

Why Sheila is such an inspiration:

Always Welcoming: She never turns anyone away, ensuring beginners and seasoned players alike feel valued.

Heart of the Community: She organises league matches, social events, and club activities where friendship and laughter come first.

Going Above and Beyond: Juggling a busy career, she works tirelessly behind the scenes to manage teams, support new players, and champion the sport.

As one nominator shared: "Falkirk Pickleball Club simply wouldn’t be the same without her... she gives her time generously and makes others feel welcome and valued."

Thank you, Sheila, for everything you do. You are a true legend on and off the court!
